It was FUN…FUN…FUN three day weekends for friendly games and talent competition which began on August 27, 2016. There were 3 teams for the FPM Summer Fun 2016: White Team (Duck-Duck Rockers). Red Team (Red Thunder) and the Yellow Team (Hard Rock Pinoy). Each team has fun loving, and competitive but friendly members, which made the event so exciting.
The Opening Day on Saturday 2:00 PM August 27 started with the team parade with their respective banners. The ceremonial signing of the Unity Ball led by Fr. Jonathan Loverita with Alan Campos and the coordinators of each team. All the team members were later asked to sign the ball.
The first event was the Cheering Competition, which was evidently the loudest fun filled contest. Every team had a good cheering presentation but the White Team won the first place. Basketball was intense with the Red Team winning the first place. The Yellow Team proved to be the best in Volley Ball for first place. Other competitions for the day were the Basketball Shooting won by Edgar Manliclic (Yellow Team), for the Men’s competition and Sally Alonso (White Team) for the Women.
After the first day of competition, there were two minor injuries, Ding Cantos hurt his arm when he got pinned on the wall scrambling for the loose ball in basketball while Allan Campos hurt his foot which aggravated when he played volleyball . Thank God, they are both Ok now.
The 2nd Day, Sunday August 28 after the 3:00PM Filipino Mass was for the Indoor Games. The games played and the winners were: Chess – Ed Pascual (Yellow Team), Sungka – Bholet Encarnacion (White Team), Scrabble – Conchita Laurencio (Yellow Team). The Table Tennis was won by the Red Team played by Fr. Jonathan and Jun Makinano; Table Soccer was won by Bro. Reynor Santiago and Kyla Guese (Red Team).
Message Relay Competition was the hardest, the prepared relay messages have to be changed for easier ones because none of the teams could relay it correctly, finally the White Team won this game.
The Bible Quiz was also intense, the video taken by Maricar was reviewed to check who was the first to press the light to answer the winning question. Robie Reyes and Presy of the Red Team won. The FPM “Henyo” was won by Geraldine Guese (Yellow Team.) The Minute to Win it games were played competitively by all the teams, with the Yellow Team winning the most number of games out of 10 games played.
Saturday, September 3, Final Day of the FPM Summer Fun for the Cultural and Talent Night. The event started with the 5:00 PM Mass celebrated by Fr. Jonathan Loverita. A sumptuous dinner was served with a crispy lechon (thank you to Ampy) before the competition. The Karaoke (Solo) competition started the ball rolling and was won by Carla Lopez (Yellow Team); the Karaoke (Duet) was won by Nora Castillo and Bholet Encarnacion (White Team) singing Beauty and Beast wearing costume. Modern Dance and Line Dance competition was won by the Yellow Team. The dancing contest was a revelation for some members, the exerted effort for team unity was comendable especially Ramon of the Red Team.
The Drama competition brought the house down. So many talented members have been discovered who could emulate the likes of FPJ, Sharon Cuneta, Cherry Gil and other named Filipino stars and superstars. The Yellow Team won the Drama contest, the Best Actor and Best Actress awardees were also from their team, Kahrl Bigornia and Tercy Ortigoza respectively. Both received special trophy for their performance. Worthy of praise also for their performances were: Nanding, Nancy, Evelyn, Aida, Pinky, Denver, Mae Ann, Susie, Presy. It was indeed a fun and exciting part of the day’s events.
Congratulations to the Red Thunder Team for their remarkable Black Light Hand Movement, winning the Best Team Presentation.
Practice makes perfect, despite the lack of it, the White, Yellow and Red Teams delivered a good performance.
All the games were determined by the point system. Every game has a corresponding point and the points were tallied after the Finale. The Yellow Team (Hard Rock Pinoy) garnered the most number of points and was awarded the Overall Champion, Red Team (Red Thunder) -1st Runner up, and the White Team (Duck Duck Rockers) the 2nd runner up. All the winners received the trophies and medals donated by Amelia and Jun Makinano.

Special thanks to the panel of judges Zeny Avila, Fe Ador and Jean Lagman who helped us to make sure that we have a fair and balance results for the Cheering and Cultural & Talent Competition. We thank Fr. Walter Tonelotto, c.s Pastor of Our Lady of Pompeii for being supportive to all the projects and programs of the Filipino Pastoral Ministry.
FPM Summer Picnic was the culmination of the 3 days Summer Fun event held on Sunday September 4. It turned out to be a beautiful Sunday at the Sunken Meadow Park despite the hurricane warning for the weekend. No swimming allowed but you could stroll in the beach or stay for sun bathing. Fishing was also allowed. Some of the Fishing group led by Fr. Jonathan and Jun Makinano caught some big and small fishes, which was later cooked for dinner. Some FPM members were able to swim in the lake after ¾ mile walk towards the end of the boardwalk. The beach was not crowded as it does usually be during Labor Day weekend. We had a good time at the picnic area until dawn. It was a day well spent, for more fun, bonding and a really good time for everyone.
After the huge success of this event, the organizing committee has other events already lined up. We will keep you posted for the details.!
